One out, One in
“End-of-life PVC-U windows were once seen an issue for builders and installers simply because there was no easy way of dealing with them - apart from sending them to landfill along with all the other ‘waste’ material from site.
With rising landfill taxes and more customers looking for green credentials that route is no longer seen as viable.
Fortunately, there is now an effective method of dealing with end-of-life PVC-U frames and, for those that choose the right window supplier, it can help win new business with green consumers and specifiers.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that end-of-life PVC-U frames have an economic value, and so builders and installers can generate additional income by sending their old frames for recycling.
If that sounds too good to be true, take a look at how the process works at Eurocell:
3. End-of-life frames are returned to our dedicated recycling facility in Derbyshire.Following a £3m investment, the plant is now the largest and most advanced in the UK with the capacity to process up to 12,000 end-of-life frames per week.
4. Old profiles are granulated before being re-pelletised.Coloured or foiled frames don’t present a problem as we use latest technology to separate minute coloured particles during the recycling process.
5. New products manufactured using the recycled material.Designed to improve a building’s thermal performance, the recycled material is intelligently hidden inside the frame profile.
Products made using recycled material include our 0.8 U-value window for the new build sector, which is designed specifically to meet the requirements of zero carbon developments.
Alongside this is Eurologik ‘A+12’ window system, which offers both new build and replacement sectors maximum thermal performance. The A+12 specification is currently the highest BFRC (British Fenestration Ratings Council) rating for a double glazed PVC-U window in the UK.
Partnering with a window supplier that has recycling capabilities makes good business sense all round, not least because end-of-life PVC-U frames have an economic value.
We will be highlighting the benefits of our recycling capabilities at Greenbuild on 9th – 10th May in Manchester to help increase specification opportunities for our customers, which should ultimately lead to increased business for builders and installers.”
