Eurocell tackles the Cumbria Way for charity

23rd June 2009

When it comes to a challenge, there’s no stopping the Eurocell team! The latest in a long line of adventures is The Cumbria Way - a gruelling 76 mile hike South to North across the Lake District from Ulverston to Carlisle.

All money raised will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy charity, which leads the fight against muscle disease. Eurocell staff decided to support the charity after retiring Sales & Marketing Director David Salt was diagnosed with the condition.

The Eurocell team will begin the challenge on 17th September and will finish in Carlisle on the fifth day. The route will cover both gruelling and beautiful scenery, giving the team a real flavour of the Lake District – not that they will be slowing down to enjoy the view! The most exhilarating scenery will be seen on the third and fourth days as they pass though Keswick and Caldbeck.

David Salt commented: “I am really touched that the team chose to support this cause. Without the additional support from people all around the country, it would not be able to continue with its excellent work.”

The team from Eurocell is now busy preparing for the challenge which, considering it is equivalent to three marathons back-to-back, involves intensive physical exertion and a fair amount of blisters! Tony Harrison, Eurocell Building Plastics Divisional Director, explains: “David has provided a huge amount of support in our preparation for this challenge, which has made us even more determined to complete it in record time. Throughout his 19 years at Eurocell, David has been a hugely inspirational figure and this is just one small part of us showing our appreciation. We are attempting to raise as much money as possible for this very worthy cause.” Last year, the Eurocell team completed The Three Peaks Challenge - one of the most physically demanding events in the UK. It involved scaling Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowden all within 24 hours and in the process raising over £6,000 for other well deserving causes.
