Eurologik helps Bridge Window Systems take care of patients

Lincolnshire-based Bridge Window Systems has supplied Cambian Healthcare with over 150 anti-ligature windows, fabricated using the Eurologik profile system.

Eurologik from Eurocell was chosen by Cambian Healthcare to replace old, thermally inefficient and potentially dangerous windows in St. Tielo House in Rhymney, South Wales.

A key requirement on this project was that the new windows should meet anti-ligature requirements, whilst being able to be locked in a closed or open vent position. High levels of natural ventilation were required during summer months to reduce reliance on energy-intensive air conditioning.

Bridge Window Systems proposed horizontal sliding windows for the secure health care unit restricted to 100mm, which allowed adequate ventilation whilst eliminating the risk of falls.

An easy sliding action allows frail or elderly patients to operate the windows unassisted.

The window specification ensures that hinges, locking points, levers or handles can’t be used by vulnerable residents as ligature points.

Featuring a full-depth Eurogroove, the Eurologik profile provided Bridge Window Systems with greater choice when choosing anti-ligature hardware.

Cambian Healthcare chose Eurologik windows because the decision making team felt that its clean sight lines, unobtrusive gasket line and slim profile looked better and maximised the area of glass. This increases natural light levels inside the building as well as giving residents better views onto the surrounding countryside.

The Eurologik profile features multiple chambers to enhance thermal efficiency and strength, as well as improving drainage.

With headquarters in South Yorkshire, Cambian Healthcare is one of the UK’s leading providers of specialist services in education, care, mental health and learning disabilities.

The typical patient profile at St. Tielo House includes women detained under the Mental Health Act or those with mental illness or personality disorders. The hospital’s aim is to help women in its care to re-build their living and vocational skills, ready to regain their place in the community.
