New university development dons Eurologik windows

When the University of Lincoln began work on the construction of a new student village, it required high-quality windows that are safe to install and that could also meet its aesthetic criteria. The new development at Lincoln Court is situated near the historic city centre, so it was important that the building complemented its surroundings.

The market-leading Eurocell Eurologik system was specified for the new 1037 bed campus, as well as for its gym, bar and health centre within the complex. The Eurologik system met the University's aesthetic specifications because the fully bevelled profiles provide much slimmer sight lines, which create more elegant and architecturally pleasing proportions to the windows.

The windows were supplied and installed by an approved Eurocell fabricator, on behalf of North Midlands Construction. The Eurocell window system is being used on an increasing number of commercial projects as it offers significant health and safety benefits on site. This is because it can be glazed from either the outside or inside. The frames on Lincoln Court were glazed from the inside because it enabled much easier and safer installation of the glass on the multi-storey buildings and avoided the need for expensive access equipment.

We are seeing Eurologik achieving great success in the commercial market, due to its high technical standards, fabrication and installation benefits and quality.

The facilities manager at Lincoln University also preferred internal glazing because it avoided a need for specialist access equipment, should any glass need replacing in the future.

Many specifiers are also choosing it to replicate the slim frames of aluminium windows at a much lower project cost. In fact, we have recently supplied several projects, such as this one at Lincoln, where both materials have been used alongside each other.”

Low emissivity coated glass was used on Lincoln Court, to meet the thermal requirements of the Building Regulations. This works by keeping heat from radiators in the building during winter, whilst reflecting the sun's rays back outside during hot summer months to prevent solar gain. Coated glass also offers economic benefits by reducing the amount of energy required to heat and cool a building.
