Project: Decent Homes regeneration programme – East Dulwich
Eurocell was recently involved on a major contract with Durkan Limited to supply windows to the East Dulwich Estate, a large Decent Homes regeneration programme in the London Borough of Southwark. Over 750 dwellings contained in 22 four-storey blocks of flats have undergone extensive repairs and improvements, including the replacement of kitchens, bathrooms, boilers, roofing repairs/replacement, brickwork cleaning and re-pointing.
 Eurocell windows were selected because of their excellent quality, thermal performance and the fact they could be installed as a direct replacement for the existing timber windows. The flats at East Dulwich Estate were predominantly fitted with timber sliding sash windows which were showing signs of serious deterioration. The architect was particularly concerned that the replacement windows should not detract from the original design style of the early 20th Century buildings.
After lengthy resident consultation, a successful planning application and subsequent completion of a pilot installation, a template was agreed which could be duplicated across the estate. This minimised disruption to residents and their existing internal decorations.
Durkan, the main contractor on this project, has been committed to supplying the public sector for over 40 years. An approved Eurocell fabricator had supplied Durkan on previous projects and following a successful bid, Durkan commissioned Eurocell windows on all 750 properties. Two blocks of flats have been completed so far with the whole site planned for completion in summer 2010.
