‘Fancy doing a 10k run for East Midlands Air Ambulance?’ They said.

‘I’m not runner, but I’ll give it a good go,’ was my reply.

Followed by instant worry because, well, I’m not a runner.

I’m a little nervous about doing a 10k run, not going to lie. I have never really been into running, probably due to having asthma which tends to hold me back. But as long as I keep it controlled and make sure I have my inhaler I’ll be fine. I have, however, always been into my fitness. I did a few years of bootcamp which I really enjoyed because it was a different work out every week. And I’m always up for trying new things and new challenges.

So, I have been pushing myself to run that little bit further on each training session. So far so good. I’ve been training mostly on the treadmills at my regular gym but I have done the odd road/outside run at the weekend. This weekend I ran at Wollaton Park which was my most enjoyable outside outing so far, with the sun shining as it has been. But I know we’ve been lucky with the spring weather lately and the longer it stays nice the more the likelihood of wet weather on race day, and I’ve got to give it my best, rain or shine!

I find running with someone easier rather than doing it all by myself as I it encourages me to train harder and longer. So, the fact I’ll be running with hundreds or thousands of other people on the day… hopefully will help me smash it!

I’ve always held a gym membership too as I love exercising and think it’s important to keep myself fit and healthy.

As the race is approaching the next 2 weeks I will be training (or aiming to train) every day.

The fact that this race is for a good cause will make me feel proud to be a part of it and even if I have to walk for some of it I’ll still be happy with that, it’s finishing that counts.

Will I be a runner after the event? Hmm, we’ll see.
