Lessons In Eurologik

Client: Weston Mill Community Primary School, Plymouth

Project: Complete fenestration for school refurbishment project

westonmillWeston Mill Community Primary School, Plymouth, dates back to Victorian times and was built around 1870. When its existing timber windows were showing signs of major deterioration, the local authority decided to replace the windows using PVC-U frames. The authority chose PVC-U because it considered the material to be lower maintenance and more cost effective than alternatives.

The Eurocell Eurologik window system was specified from a shortlist of three because, in addition to meeting value-for-money criteria, it also offered better sight lines. This was important as the specifiers wanted to retain the original appearance of the building. The Eurologik system achieves this by having fully bevelled profiles that visually create a slimmer frame section, giving the impression of a larger glass area.

An approved Eurocell fabricator installed the new windows and the school building now provides pupils with much warmer and more comfortable classrooms, thanks to the excellent thermal performance of the windows.

The Eurologik window system is based around a 70mm front-to-back dimension making it ideal for use in both commercial refurbishment and renovation work. This adaptability enabled it to be used as a direct replacement for existing frames in Weston Mill Primary School, without having to make changes to the window opening detail.

Mrs Smith, Head Teacher at Weston Mill, explains: "The old windows had deteriorated to a state where they were letting in rain and were really draughty. It has been wonderful to have brand new windows and it has made a vast difference to classroom comfort as well as the aesthetics of the building. Our local education board and governors are highly delighted as it has also saved a huge amount on heating bills."
