Eurocell Window Solution Steps Up at University of Northampton
The University of Northampton’s newly opened £350 million state-of-the-art campus accommodates 1,000 students, setting new standards in student living. The modern accommodation, located at the Waterside campus, features contemporary student housing, an on-site hotel, and learning facilities.
Revising the Window Specification to Meet Budget and Design Demands
During the construction phase, Eurocell and fabrication partner Unique Window Systems Ltd were engaged by main contractor KIER Construction to assist with the window specification.
The original aluminium and timber composite window choice was causing budget overruns and project delays. A revised window specification was agreed upon, selecting Eurocell’s Modus 75mm profile PVC-U solution in anthracite grey. This ensured:
- Performance parity with aluminium composite windows.
- Aesthetic consistency to satisfy local planners.
- Value-engineered cost savings across the 1,000-bed facility.
Further design enhancements included:
- Incorporation of louvre details to meet ventilation requirements.
- Use of glazed tilt-and-turn Modus 75mm profiles instead of spandrel panels to enhance natural light.
“The Modus 75mm window system played a key role in achieving a seamless aesthetic design for the Waterside Campus, while also delivering considerable cost savings. Combining exceptional energy efficiency with sustainability, the system incorporates 50% recycled material, underscoring its environmental credentials.

Sustainability and Cost Efficiency Drive the Modus Choice
Eurocell’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing is evident in its approach to PVC-U recycling. Through its own closed-loop recycling plants, Eurocell transforms waste PVC-U into new and reusable profiles, reducing environmental impact.
For the Waterside campus project, all installed Eurocell Modus 75mm profile windows contained at least 50% recycled content (post-consumer waste).
