Gary Gets Locked Up (For a Great Cause)

26 March 2025

On March 21st, 11 local business leaders were found guilty of outrageous (and entirely fictitious) crimes and locked up at the National Justice Museum in Nottingham - all in support of Maggie’s Jail or Bail event organised by the Nottingham centre. Armed with just a phone, a laptop, and their persuasive skills, they had one mission: raise their bail money to secure their freedom.

Among the detainees was Gary Driscoll, Sales & Commercial Director at Eurocell, jailed for Crimes Against Fashion - specifically, excessive Lycra usage in public. His most infamous offence? Strutting into a formal customer meeting, blasting modern jazz, and declaring, "Nothing says power move like John Coltrane and compression fabric in perfect harmony."

With his freedom on the line, Gary quickly rallied his network, raising an impressive £2,495 to support Maggie’s, Eurocell’s Charity Partner.
The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter, friendly competition, and a few nervous glances as the "prisoners" faced their mock trial. Dressed in full courtroom attire, the judge, barrister, and prison guards ensured that justice was served - before escorting the convicts down to the historic dungeon cells. From hard labour exercises to eerie underground caves, the experience was as immersive as it was entertaining.

Collectively, the event was a huge success, exceeding all expectations with an incredible £19,105 raised. And with an additional £4,238 in Gift Aid, the grand total reached an amazing £23,342 – all to support Maggie’s, which provides free emotional, psychological, and practical support to people with cancer and their loved ones.

Reflecting on the event, Gary said: "I didn’t know what to expect, but it was an unforgettable experience raising money for an incredible cause. Being locked in the old cells, taking part in tough exercises - it really made us appreciate just how brutal life was for prisoners of the past. The dark, damp conditions, graffiti-covered walls, and the chilling sight of a hangman’s noose gave us a small taste of history. It was all in good fun, but also a stark reminder of how harsh conditions truly were behind bars."

There’s still time to donate. Let’s keep the momentum going: Gary Driscoll - Jail or Bail
