As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we’ve decided to use a more environmentally friendly gas, Calor’s BioLPG, to fuel our forklift trucks at our manufacturing sites.

BioLPG is a green alternative to LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), made from a blend of waste, residues and sustainably sourced vegetable oils. It’s chemically identical to conventional LPG, but it’s 40% renewable, so it made perfect sense for us to make the switch.

This simple but important change is yet another step in our pledge towards becoming as environmentally friendly as possible. As part of the UK’s Carbon Reduction Commitment, businesses are required to demonstrate a 20% saving in carbon emissions by 2020; switching to BioLPG will enable us to reduce our greenhouse gas emission by at least 15%, helping us to deliver on our sustainability goals.

We’ll be using BioLPG to power over 350 forklift trucks across each of our main sites including Euorcell Recycle, where we shred and granulate used PVC-U windows and turn them into new frames. In total, we’ve invested over £10m in Eurocell Recycle and recycled over 1.2million frames last year, so all in all, we take sustainability very seriously.

We’ve even won awards for improving our environmental performance, most recently being named as the national winner of the sustainability category at the Future Manufacturing Awards. The judges were very impressed with our recycling figures and our overall commitment to enhancing sustainability. We’ve created over 100 jobs at our recycling plant for people in the local area as well, something the judging panel also commended us on.

We’re really proud to be playing our part in improving the window and door industry’s sustainability record. Using BioLPG fuel in our forklift trucks will help us towards enhancing our environmental impact further and we’re motivated to continue our efforts throughout the year and beyond.
