Logik Provides Lessons In Value
Weston Mill Community Primary School at Camels Head, Plymouth, has been refurbished using the market leading Eurocell Logik window system.
The windows were fabricated and installed by AGS Home Improvements / Crown Windows, a Eurocell fabricator with branches in Newton Abbott and St Austell.
The existing timber windows at the school were showing signs of deterioration and specifiers from Plymouth Local Education Authority therefore decided to replace them with PVC-U frames. The specifiers chose PVC-U because they considered it offered a low maintenance alternative to the timber windows as well as being more cost effective.
Eurocell Logik Ovolo system was ultimately specified from a short-list of three because, in addition to meeting value for money criteria, the decision makers felt it offered better sightlines.
This was important as the replacement frames had to retain the original appearance of the 1860’s building. Logik achieved this by having fully bevelled profiles that visually creates a slimmer frame section, giving the impression of a larger glass area.
Recently completed, the refurbishment now provides pupils with much warmer and more comfortable classrooms as well as helping to make significant savings on the school’s heating bills - Logik profile system features multi-chambers in cross-section that locks heat inside the building.
Mrs Smith, head teacher at Weston Mill Community Primary School, said: “The timber windows had deteriorated to a state where they were letting in rain and were really drafty. It has been wonderful to have brand new windows and it has made a vast difference to classroom comfort as well as aesthetics of the building. Our local education board and governors are also highly delighted as it has saved a huge amount on heating bills.”
Logik is based around a 70mm front to back dimension making it ideal for use in both commercial refurbishment and renovation work. It has the same front to back dimension as timber windows, which avoids the time consuming and expensive process of altering exiting plaster lines or window openings.
Brian Coles, Commercial Sales Manager at AGS Home Improvements / Crown Windows, explains: “We have used Logik for a number of years and have always found it ideal for use on these types of educational projects. It is one of the best quality window systems in the market, helped by the fact it has extra wall thickness, making it much easier to fabricate the larger and more intricate windows often found on this type of projects.”
