MRW Recycling Awards

Eurocell plc, the leading manufacturer, distributor and recycler of end-to-end PVC-U solutions for domestic and commercial markets, has been named Manufacturer of the Year at the highly regarded MRW National Recycling Awards.

The awards celebrate best practice and innovation in recycling and waste management across a range of sectors, including public, private and food and drink.

Over the past six years, Eurocell has invested £5m in enlarging its UK-based post-consumer PVC-U recycling operation, creating the largest and most advanced facility of its kind in the UK. In 2017, Eurocell prevented over one million PVC-U post-consumer window frames from ending up in landfill.

Using its state-of-the-art facility Eurocell recycles PVC-U, a high proportion of which is end-of-life PVC-U window frames. Recycled materials are then reintroduced into the supply chain and used to manufacture window profiles, thermal inserts, cavity closers, commercial vehicle door seals and decking products. All products are also recycled in the UK, further reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

The entries were judged by a range of experts from recycling and sustainability associations, councils and the construction industry, with the judging panel saying of Eurocell: “Eurocell is the clear winner, it is fantastic. Eurocell displays high levels of innovation and applied this across the whole business to continually improve.”

Chris Coxon, Head of Marketing at Eurocell plc, added: “Sustainability is top of the agenda within the built environment industry, which is notorious for its carbon impact. As a sector, right across the supply chain we must become more sustainable and apply this to the way we work day-to-day. Here at Eurocell, we have worked tirelessly to ensure our manufacturing process is as sustainable as possible.

“Plastic has received a lot of backlash for its environmental impact, however PVC-U can be recycled up to ten times, giving it a lifespan of up to 350 years which makes it more environmentally friendly than some of its counterparts. We are very pleased that this, and our continued investment into sustainability, has been recognised with a National Recycling Award.”
