Sun, Sand and Eurocell Sashes in Seaside Town

Replacement of old wooden windows

When Julie and Chris Jones spotted their ideal retirement property in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight they could see it needed major refurbishment, and replacing all of the old timber framed single glazed windows was high on the ‘To Do’ list.

The couple purchased the 1950s property called The Woodpeckers in the popular seaside town in 2008 and then spent more than three years stripping it back to the four outside walls and rebuilding it in a fashionable New England beach house style. Chris carried out most of the work himself, but when it came to windows he decided to call in an expert and contacted Eurocell directly for details of an approved installer.

Chris said: “I decided to replace the old timber single glazed windows with PVC-U double glazed versions to reduce heat loss and cut down on maintenance. I had seen Eurocell frames before and I knew they were high quality, so I contacted the company and they suggested The Window Sash Co to fabricate and fit the windows.”

Director of The Window Sash Co Andy McClelland explains: “As well as aiming to improve the thermal efficiency of their home, Chris and Julie were looking for a traditionally styled box sash window with a white frame to match the exterior cladding. The Eurocell vertical sliding sash profile system with its superior sightlines and proven energy efficiency was perfect for the job.”

The Window Sash Co is based at Helsea in Hampshire, where it has a fabrication unit, and directly employs its own fitters. The company produced and installed 18 windows at The Woodpeckers to an agreed schedule, and Chris was so impressed with the service that he asked them to create his new 30 sq m orangery without even inviting another company to quote.

The new windows were really important as part of the fresh look we have given the house, and of course they won’t need to be painted like the old timber frames would have done. The orangery was built onto the rear of the property, and includes a Lantern Roof fabricated using the Eurocell conservatory roof system, which now creates a bright, airy room with the maximum amount of natural light.Chris said: “

He added: “The Window Sash Co gave me a really first class service – they always turned up when they said they would, and provided all the help I needed to choose the right products for this house and so it was an obvious choice to use them for the lantern roof conservatory as well.”

The Window Sash Co specialises in box sash windows and conservatories and has particular experience of supplying PVC-U windows to meet planning requirements for Conservation Areas. It can be contacted on 02392 666047.
