There are a wide range of trade shows and exhibitions aimed at the construction industry which take place throughout the year, up and down the country. The problem for many installers can be finding the time to take out of your busy working lives to attend these shows. So, with spare time hard to come by, is it worth taking a day off to attend a trade show?
First of all, a trade show isn’t a ‘day off’ and if you really make the most of it, it can help improve your industry and product knowledge and can even enhance your business prospects. There are plenty of reasons to find the time to get along to a trade show but we’ve outlined three of the top benefits:
1) Make important connections
One of the great things about the construction industry is the people working in it and their willingness to not only develop their own skills but share their knowledge with others. A trade show gives you the opportunity to connect with a whole host of industry experts, all eager to learn and share tips and insights with each other. Making connections with others in the industry is a great way to expand your contacts, enabling you to grow your business. Whilst at a trade event, go to seminars that may be hosted by relevant contacts and introduce yourself. Make sure you exchange contact details or connect on social media so you can maintain the relationship once the event is over. When it comes to expanding your business, if you make the right impression, the connections you make can also lead to new business referrals for your company.
2) Update your product and industry knowledge
A trade show is also a great place to learn about and view new products that will make your working life easier. You will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from product manufacturers and suppliers, giving you a chance to ask questions and learn about the latest product developments. Seminars will often take place during trade shows, giving you the chance to hear about new trends and talking points in the construction industry, ensuring you’re up to date on the very latest topics to hit the headlines.
3) Improve your motivation
We can all get a bit bogged down doing the same thing every day and sometimes we need to freshen things up a bit. A day away from the tools can do wonders for your motivation, especially if it’s been spent improving your knowledge, making great connections and learning about new products. Finding the time to get along to a trade show can give you a new perspective on your job and you’ll be raring to get back to it to put your new-found knowledge into action.
If you’re in the mood to visit a trade show after hearing what a great impact they can have on your business, one that we can definitely recommend is FIT Show. The event is the UK’s only dedicated event for the window, door, flat glass, and components market and takes place from the 21st-23rd May at the NEC in Birmingham. Joining us this year on our stand will be Eurocell Champion and former Big Brother star Craig Phillips, who’ll be on hand to answer your questions, chat to you and even pose for a few photos if you’re lucky.
