Nationwide Windows Tackles Primary School's Window Pains
Nationwide Windows has helped Hatherton Primary School in Walsall, West Midlands create a warmer and more comfortable learning environment for pupils.
As part of the refurbishment, the company fitted over 80 casement windows, fabricated using Eurocell Eurologik profile system.
Eurologik was specified as a low-maintenance upgrade to existing timber windows that had rotted beyond repair.
The timber windows were also accounting for a significant proportion of the building’s heat loss. Eurologik addressed this issue because the profile system features multi-chambers in cross-section that locks heat inside the building, which will help minimise the school’s heating bills going forward.
Another reasons why Eurologik profile system was specified at Hatherton Primary School was because its 70mm front to back dimension was the same as the existing timber windows. This provided significant benefits because it avoided the costly and disruptive process of having to alter existing plaster lines.
Safety considerations were integral to the school’s requirement and so Nationwide Windows recommended handles located out of reach of pupils. Safety glass was installed on lower level windows to minimise the risk of injuries to pupils if the glass was ever broken.
Mr Haywood, Headteacher at Hatherton Primary School, explains: “Upgrading the windows was an integral part of ongoing renovations at our School. The timber windows were in desperate need of replacement to prevent draughts in the classrooms, especially considering all the recent cold weather.”
He added: “The new windows look fantastic and I’m pleased that this means we are improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of our school.”
Warwickshire based Nationwide Windows fabricates and installs for building contractors, developers, local authorities and housing associations. The company has modern production facilities, which enables it to offer quality products backed up by a responsive service.
John Whalley, Managing Director at Nationwide Windows, comments: “We have a considerable amount of experience in providing solutions for new build schools as well as those undergoing refurbishment. The windows supplied to Hatherton Primary School were designed with the safety of pupils in mind as well as helping the local authority reduce its energy bills, which will create a much more sustainable building.”
The Eurocell Eurologik profile system is available in a wide range of colours, which makes it suitable for installation in both traditional and contemporary buildings.
The sustainable credentials of PVC-U have been recognised by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), which awarded PVC-U windows an ‘A’ rating for sustainability in residential and ‘A+’ rating for commercial developments in the BRE Green Guide to Specification (June 2008).
