Be comfortable in your conservatory, 365 days a year
If you have a conventional conservatory attached to your home you’ll know this problem only too well… Under strong sun it quickly gets too hot and bright for comfort, while through the winter it’s a space that’s usually too cold to spend any time in at all.
That’s the big drawback, and it’s all down to the conservatory roof design of old-style structures.
Back in the day, thin polycarbonate sheet was the standard method of glazing the roof of a conservatory. Although usually double or even triple-skinned, these sheets still allow heat to pass through them without much resistance, so summer sun rapidly builds up the temperature inside. In the winter the opposite happens - however much you turn up the heat, it passes through the polycarbonate to the outside with ease. So you’re effectively heating your garden… Overall it’s pretty much a lose-lose situation!
So what’s the solution? You’d be right in thinking it’s a different kind of roof.
Equinox tiled conservatory roof benefits:

An Equinox warm deck roof keeps it just right
The fact is, thousands of UK homeowners have discovered that an Equinox replacement conservatory roof is the smart, affordable and effective answer. You could call it the ‘Goldilocks effect’ – not too hot, not too cold, just right.
Instead of that thin polycarbonate, Equinox gives your conservatory a lightweight tiled and insulated roof that changes a space you hardly ever use into an inviting extra room you can enjoy all year round.
Equinox is what’s known in the trade as a warm roof, because the insulation needed to keep the temperature steady all year round is just under the roof tiles. And that insulation is the crucial factor.
While being very slim, the highly efficient warm roof insulation layer gives excellent u-values. This is the technical measurement of heat transfer, and the smaller the number, the higher the roof’s insulation performance. Equinox comes in with a value of just 0.15 – that’s about 10 times more effective than an A-rated window.
What about the light? And the weight?
One thing the old polycarbonate roof does well is let in the light, and of course that’s a key feature of a conservatory. But with Equinox there’s no need to sacrifice that light and airy feel. The system can incorporate roof glazing which allows the light to flood in without overheating in summer, or losing lots of warmth in winter. That’s because the glazing material itself provides excellent thermal insulation.
You may also be wondering if a conservatory is strong enough to support a tiled and glazed roof. With Equinox there’s no problem on that score.
Although its warm roof construction has the solid look of a traditional roof, the materials in Equinox have been specified to add a minimal extra load. The tiles are made from a lightweight blend of limestone and polypropylene, glass reinforced plastic (GRP) or lightweight steel. So whichever one you opt for, it will still be lighter than conventional stone, slate or concrete.
Rest assured that with Equinox warm roof construction there’s no need to strengthen your existing conservatory structure. All you need to do is choose what tile type will suit your home – there are 11 different colours and textures available from dark slate to burnt umber, so you’ll be able to make a good match with your home’s main roofing. The same goes for the gutters and fascias. With plenty of choice you can replicate the look of your existing home, making your conservatory look like it’s really part of the house design, and not just an add-on structure.
No more clattering rain on plastic or noise from outside, no condensation, no creaks or leaks – what you have is a genuine tiled roof that oozes quality in every detail. So much better than a sun-yellowed polycarbonate that’s prone to moss and mould.
The resulting look is something to be proud of from day one and, because you’re effectively adding an extra room, you’ll also be adding real and lasting value to your home.
The perfect conservatory roof installation in just 48 hours
An Equinox warm roof is made with millimetre precision, based on your approved installer’s detailed survey and careful measurements. The whole system is manufactured by us in our own UK factory, so we have complete control over quality and production timings. Better still, your Equinox warm deck roof arrives prefabricated so the installation is quick with the minimum of disruption. Your warm roof conservatory could be ready for use in as little as 48 hours.
And because your warm roof is custom-made, we can match any style of conservatory. Lean-to, gable-end, Victorian, Edwardian, P-shaped, differing roof formats such as hips and valleys – whatever the construction, Equinox fits to transform your under-used space into a smart and stylish warm roof conservatory.
Inside, the warm roof insulation is covered over by either plasterboard which you can paint to suit your own taste, or it can be factory-finished with tongue-and-groove cladding to create a ‘Scandi’ lodge ambience in a cool, chic style.
One of the other great style pluses of a warm roof conservatory is that you have the freedom to create amazing lighting effects. Whether you choose the plasterboard or cladding option, there’s plenty of latitude to add recessed LED lights, centrepiece downlights or even a chandelier or two! It’s another transformational aspect of a warm roof conservatory – in the evening it can become an elegant, beautifully lit space that adds a whole new style focus to your interior.
