Fascia Board FAQS
Fascia FAQ
How long do Eurocell fascia boards last?
Eurocell uPVC fascia boards can last 20-30 years. They’re resistant to rot, warping, and weather damage, and require minimal upkeep. For your peace of mind, we offer a 20-year guarantee against cracking, warping or discolouration.
Can I install fascia boards myself?
Eurocell fascia boards are designed to be user-friendly for confident DIYers. However, because installation involves working at height and ensuring proper integration with guttering and soffits, many customers choose a professional installer for safety and the best results. Read our installation guide to learn more and check the documentation for each product to ensure manufacturer guidelines are followed.
How do I measure for fascia boards?
To measure for fascia boards, simply measure the length of the roof edge where the boards will be fitted. For full replacement, also measure the height from the bottom of the rafters to just under the roof tiles. Don’t forget to account for joins, corners, and end caps, and it's always smart to add a little extra to allow for cuts and adjustments.
What’s the difference between capping boards and full replacement fascia boards?
Capping boards (also known as ‘cap-over’ boards) are thinner and designed to be fitted over existing timber fascias that are still in good condition. Full replacement fascia boards are thicker, stronger, and used when replacing old timber completely. If the existing timber is damaged or rotting, full replacement is the way to go.
What are the different styles of fascia board and which to choose?
It depends on the look and function you want:
- Standard fascia boards offer a clean, classic appearance that suits most homes. - Ogee fascia boards have a decorative edge for a more detailed, contemporary finish. - Bullnose fascia boards feature a rounded profile for a softer, more eye-catching look. - Flat fascia boards are ideal for flat roofs, garages, or open eaves where soffits and returns aren’t needed.
All styles come in a range of colours and woodgrain finishes, so you can match them to your property’s look.
How to remove old fascia boards?
To remove old fascia boards, first take down the guttering and any soffit boards attached. Then, carefully pry the old fascia away from the rafters using a crowbar or similar tool, starting at one end and working across. Watch out for nails, screws, or damaged wood. If in doubt, it's best to consult a professional installer to ensure a safe and secure replacement.
What's the difference between fascia and soffit boards?
Fascia boards are fixed to the edge of your roof, running horizontally and supporting the bottom row of tiles and the guttering. Soffits sit underneath the fascia board, bridging the gap between the fascia and the wall. While fascias provide structural support and weather protection, soffits help ventilate the roof space and protect the underside of the eaves.
